Venice is not just famous for being surrounded by water, but also for its many traditions and cultural institutions. Venetian masks are popular amongst tourists, and Mondonovo is a great place to visit if you’re looking for a souvenir or a gift.
Perhaps the popularity of Venetian masks and mask shops in Venice can be put down to Guerrino Lovato, a famous theatre designer who has been selling these Venetian masks ever since 1983 in his Dorsoduro store. Today, most Venetian masks available are made by machine in bright, often garish colors. However, Mondonovo reflects Lovato’s passion – and so, if you want a real Venetian mask made to a quality finish, then this is the bet place to look. The masks at Mondonobo sell from between £25 and £250, with the most expensive being custom made and ornate. The masks are handmade and made of papier-mache.
They’re true to tradition and great to take home.
